Parkland Health Foundation awarded $1M grant

The Parkland Health Foundation will receive a $1 million grant from The Dallas Foundation to advance pediatric and maternal health in Dallas County, D Magazine reports. Michael Horne, EdD, MPP, President and CEO of the Parkland Health Foundation, tells  Dallas Innovates the investment will help expand access to quality care, strengthen support services and improve outcomes for mothers and babies across the county. The Dallas Foundation tells  My Sweet Charity the funding will provide long-term support that better meets mothers’ needs where they are.

CHNA reveals mental health as a top concern in Dallas County

The 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) revealed behavioral health and mental wellness as the top priority in Dallas County. In a Q&A with KERA News, Kurtis Young, LCSW, Senior Director of Social Work for Behavioral Health Services, highlighted the growing demand for behavioral health services and the factors contributing to increased mental health concerns, including financial stress and barriers to care. Young also shared how Parkland is expanding access through community-based mental health programs including expanded adolescent services and the Paths to Recovery Clinic.

Dallas Morning News editorial highlights CHNA findings

A Dallas Morning News editorial highlighted key findings from the latest CHNA released by Parkland and Dallas County Health & Human Services. The op-ed underscored ongoing health disparities across Dallas County, including a 17-year gap in life expectancy between ZIP Codes. It emphasized the need for continued investment in care access, affordable housing, transportation, food security and mental health. The piece recognized the CHNA as a roadmap for ongoing collaborative efforts, including Parkland-led programs to expand access to care.

Parkland sees success with RIGHT Care expansion

A new KERA News report is highlighting the expansion of the city of Dallas’ and Parkland’s RIGHT Care services with new, specialized response teams for children and adolescents experiencing mental health crises. Scott Creasy, LMSW, RIGHT Care Social Worker, shared how the teams comprised of a clinician, paramedic and police officer provide a more holistic, compassionate approach to crisis response by connecting youth and their families to mental health resources and community-based support. The article highlighted the program’s early success in diverting young people from emergency rooms or jail while supporting families during moments of crisis.
